About Me

The summer of 1998 I spent the summer working and living on Mt. Rainier at Paradise Inn. Every free moment I was out on a trail, from sunrise to sunset, often climbing down in the dark. That summer solidified that I would move to Seattle after college and spend my free time hiking. After 15 years of living and hiking here, and endless requests for hike recommendations, my wife encouraged me to start this blog and have one resource for my recommendations.
I spent a lot of time during two summers working at Paradise, exploring Mt. Rainier National Park in my free time, so it took me a while to get back there once I lived in Seattle full time and wanted to explore more areas. I tend to focus on a geographic area each summer, and try to hit a new trail any time I’m able to hike or backpack. My latest favorite is the North Cascades, and getting as high up without doing any technical climbs.
Day hikes are mostly what I do, though I try to get out on a couple overnights and at least one multi-night each summer. There are a lot of great resources for checking road and trail conditions along with recent trip reports. The WTA is an amazing resource for hikes, but I intend to offer a more manageable set of hikes as recommendations and then use WTA, National forest, and National park sites to check into the up-to-date information on each hike.
